Hi, my name is Zachariah Singh and here is a bit about my musical journey:
I learnt the tabla (Delhi Gharana) through the Guru Shishya tradition. It involved one to one mentoring from a dedicated master of the art. I still continue with my learning, by regularly visiting my guru in Mumbai or catching up with him online. Tabla has given me many opportunities to perform but my main passion is teaching children.
In the past 16 years, I have worked full time as a music teacher privately and across a variety of primary and secondary schools in London. The quality of my teaching has been inspected by Ofsted and School Music Services have observed how I engage kids of all backgrounds with Indian music.
I was raised on a farm in the Punjab region of India surrounded by beautiful countryside. During my childhood, I moved to Oxford with my parents and seven brothers and sisters. Music played an important role in the family with everyone singing and playing a variety of instruments. I guess it was a way to keep us connected to Indian culture. As a married man with two children, we have continued with this tradition at extended family gatherings.
